Jim Murphy was born April 21st 1924 in St. Paul Minnesota and passed away March 19, 2012 in Federal Way, Washington. Jim grew up in Minnesota and North Dakota. Right after high school in 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 6 years in the Pacific during and after WWII. After the war he went through an apprenticeship program as a machinist with the Northern Pacific Railway. He also worked for Murphy Campbell, Nalley's, The Port of Tacoma and the Beltline RR as well as self employment in his machine shop, Murphy Machinery. Jim was married to Mary for 52 years, who preceded him in death in 2006. He was also preceded in death by his brother; George and sister; Joan. Jim is survived by his son; Steve (Darcy) Murphy, and daughter; Claire (John) Robertson, grandchildren; Calli, Neal, Lee, and Scott, and great grandson Lukas, brother; Ray (Shirley) Murphy, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jim was a member of the Puyallup, Elks, Knights of Columbus, Machinist Union, Carbon Canyon and Tacoma Model T Clubs and past commander of the Tacoma Power Squadron. A Rosary will be offered 10:30 AM, Wednesday March 28th at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 2303 54th Ave East in Fife. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 AM also at St. Martin of Tours with a reception following immediately afterwards in the church fellowship hall.
