Dale Riddle was born in Hooker, OK on March 14, 1927. He passed away August 29, 2012 at the age of 85 in Puyallup, WA. He moved to Washington State in 1936 with his parents Victor and Elizabeth Riddle, his brother Darrell Lee and his sister Sally.
Dale served in the Navy during World War II returning to graduate from Sumner High School in 1947. On May 2, 1947 he married Irene Hyland, his High School sweetheart, at the First Baptist Church in Sumner. Dale and Irene celebrated their 65th anniversary this past May.
They settled in Puyallup where their five children were born and raised. He is best known for his wit and willingness to help others while employed at Copeland Lumber (Puyallup) for 30+ years.
Dale and Irene were one of the original neighborhood families who gathered together each year for more than 20 years to celebrate the Christmas season with “Twinkle Lane”. Dale was instrumental in maintaining and installing the community garland signs at the entrances to the neighborhood and the large Christmas tree in the center of the neighborhood.
He was active with the Boy Scouts for several years assisting summer and winter campouts as his sons Robin and Aaron earned their scouting badges. Dale was an avid bowler and was a member of various bowling leagues at the Puyallup Daffodil Bowl for many years.
Dale enjoyed camping and fishing with his wife and children, as well as with his brother and brothers-in-law and their families during his retirement years. During the early retirement years they traveled together each winter to Arizona and in the later retirement years they spent a week together fishing at the Conconully Reservoir in Eastern Washington. His son Aaron was his constant fishing companion.
He is survived by Irene; his children and their spouses, Claudia (Rod) Clausnitzer (Omak), Dede Carlson (Redmond), Robin (Cindy) Riddle (Orting), MerryBeth (Stan) Palmer (Bainbridge Island), and Aaron Riddle (Bonney Lake); 12 grandchildren: Ryan, Emmy and Benjamin (Lisa) Clausnitzer; Stacy, Stephanie (Cory) Bray and Shelby Carlson; Joel (Tina) Riddle, Shannon (Vic) Reichl, Sarah (Shaun) Shay, and Cory Riddle; Brandon Palmer; and Andrew Uchiyama. Additionally, he is survived by 9 great-grandchildren, Owen Clausnitzer, Ava Bray, Kade Riddle, Laden Riddle, Zane Riddle, Jade Reichl, Dominique Reichl, Sebastian Riddle, and Scarlett Shay.
He was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Elizabeth, brother, Darrell Lee, sister, Sally and son-in-law, Dick Carlson. Visitation will be 4-6 pm on Monday, Sept. 3rd at Powers Funeral Home, Puyallup. Grave side services to be held at 9 am Tuesday, Sept. 4th in the Sumner Cemetery, 12324 Valley Ave. E, Puyallup 98372. Memorial Service will follow at 11 am at the First Baptist Church, 1219 15th St NW, Puyallup 98371.
