Martha was born in Sugar City, Colorado to Gotlieb and Amalie Rein Grasmick. She was married to Leslie Howard (Bob) Pennington for 54 years, until his death in 1999. Martha received a music scholarship but could not attend due to a family hardship. Martha began her career with numerous jobs including farm chores, the Sugar Beet Factory, housecleaning (making 34 cents a day), secretary to an attorney during WW11, sales person at Montgomery Wards, Girls Scouts and Federal Government as a pay clerk. Eventually, she found her passion as a real estate agent. For over 30 years, she dedicated herself to exceptional service to her clients. She even allowed some to stay in her home until their house became available.
Martha lived in Pueblo, Colorado for 46 years and was a member of Tabor Lutheran Church. She belonged to many organizations, including The Eagles Club, Newcomers, Red Hats and Greeters’ Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, Ma Jong, dancing and loved to travel. Trips included Russia (where she met distant relatives), New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and most of the United States. She will be remembered as a strong, generous, spunky, funny and loving person. Martha thoroughly enjoyed and loved her family. However, you needn’t be a blood relative for her to include you and treat you like one. She was the “glue” and family matriarch. As such, over the years she maintained connections with numerous relatives and friends.
Martha is survived by 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her two dogs Tip and Cooper.
