Born November 13, 1931 in Walsenburg CO, she was the daughter of Julian and Christina Martinez. Her mother died in 1934 and her father married Carmelita Pascal.
Della had various jobs in Boulder County before retiring from IBM. She took great comfort from her Catholic faith and was a member of Holy Family Church and belonged to the Legion of Mary. She loved staying busy and enjoyed cooking, sewing, dancing, painting, gardening and last but not least shopping. She will be remembered for her sense of style; she took great pride in her appearance. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, her wonderful sense of humor, her empathy and her willingness to try new things. She took great joy in preparing for the holidays - especially making everyone’s favorite meals.
Della is preceded in death by her husband, Eluterio; her son, Lawrence; her parents, her brothers Frank and Julian and sister, Kora Cisneros, step brother, Rudy Cruz and step sister, Amada Aragon.
Della is survived by her daughter, Rina (Rudy) Garcia; her son Gene (Sara) Martinez, daughter-in-law, Elaine Martinez; brother-in-law, John ‘Stony’ (Nancy) Martinez. Grandchildren, Ludel Garcia, Jason (Nikki) Martinez, Elizabeth (Jason) Encineas, Melissa (Ben) Miland, Gene Martinez Jr., Rudy Garcia Jr. Great grandchildren Bernadette McCalman, Celina (Kenneth) Doescher, Ali Fernandez, Ranjan Fernandez, Jr., Elijah Fernandez, Tyler Miland, Isaiah Miland, Rudy Garcia III, Asher Martinez. Great great grandchildren Dominic Chavez, Aneesa Chavez, Timothy McCalman, and Xzavier McCalman. Five generations!
The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 10 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church. The Rosary will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 6:00pm at Imperial Funeral Home, in Pueblo CO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Jude's Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
