Casimiro Barela

Casimiro Barela, 82, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 5, 2018. Casimiro was born on Jan. 9, 1936 to Casimiro Sr., and Josephina Barela. He was raised by his grandma, Agapita Apodaca. Preceded in death by both parents, Casimiro Barela Sr. and Josephina Barela; sisters, Eustolia Bailon, Modesta Sanchez, Luaine Martinez; and brother, Joe A. Barela. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Alicia Barela; and children, Ernie, Richard, Brian (Yvette) Barela, Toni (Vic) Sanchez, Patricia (Rafael) Cisneros; grandchildren, Victor, Vincent (Ximena), Valerie, Christopher (Amanda), Bianca (Keanu) Cabral, Laticia and Zach Cisneros; and numerous great-grandchildren; along with his sister, Irene Cordova; brother, Joe Nelson Barela. He served his country and retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years as a Sergeant First Class; he served overseas in Germany, Thailand and in the Vietnam War. His career took him to countless other bases over the years. He received numerous medals and commendations to include National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, The Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device, Good Conduct Medal-1st and 2nd Awards, Army Commendation Medal, two Overseas Bars, six Service Strips, Expert Badge W/Rifle Bar, Sharpshooter Badge W/Rifle Bar and Last Overseas Tours. Casimiro enjoyed watching the Colorado Rockies and Broncos. He liked working as a mechanic and took pride in his yard. He enjoyed cooking and baking. He will be greatly missed. Viewing at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, funeral services will follow with military honors. Rosary will begin at 10 a.m. with funeral service and reception to follow at Imperial Funeral Home.
