Angela Marie Vigil

With a heavy heart, we announce the loss of our beloved mother, Angela M. Vigil. She passed quickly to the gates of Heaven as a result of kidney disease February 15, 2015. Earth’s loss is Heaven’s gain as surely this “little grandma” was an angel. Angela was born November 27, 1921 in Gardner, Colorado to Manuel E. Martinez and Caroline C. Garcia. She was the youngest of four children, Edward Martinez, Conrad Martinez and Anna (Martinez) Salazar. She is preceded in death by her siblings and her husband, Alfred Vigil. In 1940, she met and fell in love with Alfred Vigil. They married in 1941 in his hometown of San Luis. Shortly afterwards, Alfred was drafted in 1942 and served in the Army overseas for three years. After the war ended in 1945, they lived in Florence and eventually moved to Pueblo where they lived a full and rich life. Angela loved being a wife and mother. She took great pride in volunteering for the Pueblo County Foster Grandparents Program which provided educational support for struggling special needs students. She was an active member at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and treasurer for the Legion of Mary. Along with her husband, she performed and traveled throughout Colorado with the Mariachi De Pueblo. She was a woman of strong faith, a true giver, full of grace, sweet and kind. She was a great role model and her positive influence has made a lasting impact on her family and friends. She was an angel who came down to serve for 93 years with the following loved ones: her devoted son, Charles Vigil, his wife, Ramona Ortiz; his daughter, Missy Vigil; Ramona’s children, Ed Ortiz, Laura (John) Gomez and Yvette (Neal) Robinson. Angela is also survived by her daughter, Caroline (Vigil) Easton, her children, Shari and Don (Amanda) Chavez; her husband, James Easton, James’ daughter, Aimee (Rob) Hellem and includes 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Viewing will be held from 3–5 pm, Sunday, February 22 at Adrian-Comer Garden Chapel, 2710 N. Elizabeth St. Rosary/Funeral Mass is scheduled for 9:30 am, Monday, February 23 at Sacred Heart Cathedral Church, 414 W. 11th St. with Father Ben Bacino officiating. Burial will take place at Imperial Memorial Gardens, 5450 W. State Highway 78, followed by a Luncheon Reception at Sacred Heart Cathedral Church.
