SOUTH KINGSTOWN - McCONNELL, Walter E., 84, died Friday at Brentwood Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Ruth M. (Trayner) McConnell. Born in Providence, a son of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Brown) McConnell, he had lived in Matunuck for the past 18 years, previously living Cranston for many years. He had been a summer resident of Matunuck his entire life. Mr. McConnell was a Outside Plant Manager for the former New England Telephone Company for 41 years, retiring in 1982. He also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a WWII Army veteran and served in the European Theater. He enjoyed working on projects around his home, and he loved living in the Matunuck community. He is survived by his children, Ruth F. Daniels of Coventry, and Brian G. McConnell and Paul T. McConnell both in South Kingstown; a sister Eileen Johnson of Cranston, and six grandchildren. His funeral will be private.
