East Greenwich --Gibbons, Thomas J., Sr., 83 of High Hawk Rd. and a former resident of Garden City in Cranston for over 45 years, passed away on Wednesday at Haven Health Center in Coventry, surrounded by his family. Mr. Gibbons moved to his daughter's home in East Greenwich in 2002. He was the beloved husband of Catherine (Donahue) Gibbons. Born in Providence on April 18, 1932 son of the late David J. and Agnes M. (McGowan) Gibbons. Before his retirement in 1986 Mr. Gibbons was employed by The Federal Government as a Customs Service Agent for over 29 years. Mr. Gibbons was a former communicant of the church of St. Mark, Garden City where he was also a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Thomas was a WWII Navy Veteran, a 1941 Graduate of La Salle Academy, and a 1949 Graduate of Providence College. He enjoyed playing golf and baseball, but most of all had a great love for his grandchildren. Besides his loving wife of over 49 years, he is survived his children, Thomas J. Gibbons Jr. of Cranston, Carol Hathaway of East Greenwich, Brother of David J. Gibbons of Narragansett and Dr. Raymond Gibbons of DE. Grandfather of four. Brother of the late Joseph, Andrew and Dr. John Gibbons. His funeral will be held on MONDAY, November 13th at 9:30am from The RUSSELL J. BOYLE & SON Funeral Home 142 Centerville Rd.(Rt.117) Warwick, followed by a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial in The Church of St. Mark ,Garden City Cranston at 11am. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
