Melissa Ann Tierney

Melissa A. (Coccia) Tierney, 39, of Sarasota, FL, passed away Saturday July 8, 2023 at her home. She was the loving wife and soulmate of the late Jonathan “Jon” A. Tierney who she was with for ten years.

Born in Providence, RI, she was the beloved daughter of Joseph Coccia, Jr. and Stephanie (Steeves) Coccia.

Melissa grew up in Cumberland, RI and attended Blessed Sacrament School & Cumberland High School. She continued her education at CCRI where she received her associate degree in nursing. She was a Registered Nurse in Florida and Rhode Island who was adored by all the people she helped. Her beautiful smile and sweet personality could light up any room and anyone’s day.

Besides her parents, she leaves behind her two brothers Ryan Coccia and his wife Michelle of North Bangor, NY and Joseph Coccia, III and his wife Catherine of Coventry, RI. She was the much-loved aunt of Aaron, Jacoby, Brady, Gennaro, and Adrianna Coccia and dog mom to Poppa. Melissa also leaves several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Melissa always lived her life with positivity and love. We encourage you to honor her memory by doing the same going forward.

Family and friends are invited for visitation on Sunday, July 16 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM and Monday, July 17 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM in Pontarelli-Marino Funeral Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, RI 02904.
