Mary Ellen (Power) McKenna, 94, of North Providence, passed away on Sunday at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerard E. McKenna, they were married for 68 years.
Born in Worcester, MA she was a daughter of the late William M. and Anna C. (Bowen) Power.
Mary Ellen worked as a Registered Nurse at Women and Infants Hospital for many years before her retirement. In her spare time she enjoyed visiting Camp Wulamat in New Found Lake, NH, traveling to various places, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving and caring person who will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves her children, Gerard E. McKenna (Joyce, deceased), William M. McKenna, Maureen A. DelSesto (William), Kathleen T. Marciano, Kevin P. McKenna (Laurie), and John L. McKenna (Janice), a sister, Patricia A. DeProspo, she was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren, and the loving great-grandmother of 12 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late James J. “Jimbo” McKenna.
Mary Ellen’s visitation will begin on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 8:30 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am in Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, 25 4th Street, North Providence, RI 02911. Burial will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
