A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Prineville Nazarene Church at 780 E. First St. in Prineville, Oregon. at 780 E. Curt Batman will officiate. There will be a reception following for family and friends at the Eagles Lodge in Prineville. A private graveside will be held at Juniper Haven Cemetery.
She was born July 4, 1919 in Burlington, CO. to Alvin and Lillian (Falk) Broadsword. At the age of 15, the family moved to Sandpoint, ID where she attended school. It was there that she met and married Casey Bonny in 1935. They resided in Idaho for several years and then moved to Prineville in 1942 where they spent their entire married life. After the death of her husband in 1980, Lela remained in Prineville until 2006 when she moved to Bend to be near her children.
She is survived by 3 children and their spouses: Gene and Deana Bonny of LaPine; Barb and Cliff Gover from Casa Grande, AZ; and Donna and Jim Keller of Bend; 6 grandchildren: Joni Bogardus, Gary Gover, Mark Gover, Jeff Keller, Jacquie Volkers and Doug Bonny; 10 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She also leaves 2 sisters: Henrietta Hoskinson, Prineville; Shirley Koch of Prineville; 2 brothers: Don Broadsword, Boise, Id; Glen Broadsword, Wenatchee, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lela spent her entire life as a loving and devoted wife and mother. She contributed many years as a volunteer at the Senior Center and Neat Repeat in Prineville. She was a member of The Rotanas, Soroptimist International and was a very active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles where she served tirelessly and always graciously. She loved to dance, cook, sew, garden, play cards and entertain her family and friends. Throughout her life she made many friends and will be remembered dearly for her caring and giving ways. She never forgot a friend and anyone who knew her will always remember her kindness, smile, laughter and loving heart. Her entire family was most precious to her and her enduring love touched them all profoundly.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Casey, who passed away in 1980; also a grandson Steven Bonny, her parents, sister Helen Robertson and two infant siblings.
