Her sun rose on November 22, 1939 and set on October 10, 2024. She now joins her husband Barrie, son James and parents Thomas and Florence Smith, along with her siblings John, June, Betty, Patsy, Billy, George and her dear friend John. Barb is survived by her three children and has left a space in the hearts of Mark, Cheryl, Drydon and Grace, Carrie, Philipp and Dominic, Cynthia, Nathan and Samantha and Isaiah along with many other family members. She leaves the best forever friends Marie, Marilynn, Patty, Marg Rowat, Kay, Bernice, Maureen, Lydia’s girls and so many more.
Ahead of her time with a belief in herself every step of the way, our Barb was fiercely independent. She loved to work, was loyal and always devoted no matter the task. She had a passion for organizing others, laying it out and bringing it home. She was committed to the support and memory of Canada’s veterans, serving positions at the Royal Canadian Legion including president of the RCL Ladies Auxiliary.
A natural creator from early days with stain glass, paper mâché, chocolate making, crochet, forever knitting and her love of quilting was for anyone, anywhere, and any time. Always a competitor, she loved games and numbers, a natural born card counter – anyone who played poker or cribbage knew they were doomed. Even when quiet there was Crosswords, Find a Word and her favourite Bejeweled.
Barb was generous, her grandchildren enjoyed her fast wit and cash hidden handshakes. She was first to share her winnings, share what she made and share what she was given. She possessed a remarkable green thumb, anything grew with her touch, and any flower gave her delight.
She loved a busy house, an audience, Cariboo history, ice cream, making lists and belonging to a group or committee. She loved a good silent auction, making prize baskets and watching anything British…and no one could text, WhatsApp or win at slots like her.
Rest easy Barbie, as you often said, "one step in front of the other, it is what it is and read my eyes"…’cause tea is on, the crib board is set, crackers and cheese await.
We love you so very much. ~ The Barlow Family xox
And when you know the wings you ride. Can keep you in the sky. There isn't anyone holding back you. ~ R.MacNeil
A special thank you to Dr.Cabage and the PG Hospice for all the caring support of our Barb. We ask that you support your local legion, be sure to wear a poppy and embrace your senior community always.
