June 28, 1931 – August 18, 2024
Keith Stevens "Spike" Morgan, 93, of Allens Falls Flow in Parishville, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 18, 2024, at United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton. Arrangements for cremation are with the Garner Funeral Service.
Spike was born on June 28, 1931, in Canton, NY to the late Kenneth and Charlotte (Stevens) Morgan. He grew up in Unionville and graduated from Potsdam Central High School in 1949 where he played varsity hockey, football, baseball and track. Unskilled at basketball, Spike served as the Captain of the team's cheerleading squad. Spike was a veteran of the United States Navy from March of 1952 to September of 1954 proudly serving on the USS Great Sitkin ammunition ship. He retired in 1991 from the New York Power Authority as Director of Purchasing and Warehousing after 32 years of service.
In 1956 he married Patricia Gravelin at St. Andrew’s Church in Norwood, NY and the happy couple enjoyed 67 years of marital bliss.
In addition to his parents, Spike was predeceased by his loving wife Patty in August 2023 and his older brother Ken in September 2015.
Spike is survived by his sons, Michael (Robin) Morgan of Canton, NY, and Kelly (Debbie) Morgan of Manchester, NH; daughter Laurie (Lauren) Frank of Hannawa Falls, NY; sister Mary LaBrake of Baldwinsville, NY; grandchildren Danielle and Will, Brandi and Matt, Travis and Brittany, Stephanie and John, Mia and Eric, Haleigh and Tyler, and Cassidy and Matt; as well as great grandchildren Aries, Harmonie, Serenity, Jackson, Masen, Cooper, Noah, Thomas, Rhyan, Rhett, Rhodes, Wilder and another great granddaughter on the way.
Spike was an avid fan and supporter of local youth sports and a lifelong fan of Clarkson hockey. He could be found at hockey rinks, football, soccer and lacrosse fields as well as basketball courts throughout the north country. He served on the Potsdam Recreation Commission as a member and then Chair for many years.
There was no greater joy for Spike than to be up at camp on Allen's Falls Flow with family and friends playing cards, boating, jumping off the rope swing, telling tall tales and making sure to tell everyone "Have a ball!"
He was a member of the American Legion Post 68 in Norwood, NY and a long-time member of the Raquette River Fire Department.
One of Spike's favorite credos: Life's journey isn't to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn-out shouting "Holy Cow, What a ride!"
Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 19th from 4 to 7 pm at the Garner Funeral Home, 10 Lawrence Ave., in Potsdam. A private burial with be held on Friday, September 20th at St. Mary's Cemetery in Potsdam with military honors.
