I am just now hearing about this, I am so sorry for your loss. The time I spent in Artem's lab was very special to me. I learned so much from him and you, not only about science, but about who I wanted to be as a person. I will always remember Dr. Melman as a smart, kind, and all around lovely man. I truly feel honored to have known and learned from him. I hope you are healing from this untimely loss.

My late husband Yuzhuo and Professor Melman were departmental colleagues for many years and Yuzhuo held highest respect for your husband.  Your son Mark has been a friend of my son Eugene and very kind and supportive to Eugene after Yuzhuo’s passing.  We are so sorry for your loss.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Professor Galina Melman and family, 

I am so saddened to hear of Prof. Artem Melman's passing. I had Prof. Galina for organic chemistry 1 and 2 my sophomore year, and it is because of her outstanding teaching that I decided to earn a chemistry minor, which granted me the pleasure of being taught Biochemistry 2 by Prof. Artem.  He always kept the class interesting, useful, and thorough. He was always there to offer a helping hand, an explanation, or encouraging feedback. His passing brings a great loss for the Clarkson community.  I am thankful to have had time learning from you both, and will never forget my time with  Prof. Artem. May he Rest In Peace, and may the love for him aid you all during this hard time.

Dear Galina and Family, 

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Dr. Melman. He was my professor for Organic Chemistry Lab, and he was brilliant. The organic chemistry classes with both Artem and Galina were hands down my favorite classes in school. I always remember seeing the two of them walk around campus together, and they always said hi when they would see me. It was nice to know that you were a memorable face to your professors because they taught so many students.

I took medicinal chemistry with Dr. Melman during grad school. I often remember my experiences, during that course, of being amazed and in awe at the beauty of how our metabolism works and how medicines affect the various processes in our body. There were a few distinct “ah ha” moments where life came into focus for me, through understanding of chemistry…. and that was through what he taught us. I enjoyed and appreciated his compassionate, calm, and pragmatic approach to teaching and interacting with students. I will always remember him fondly. I am so sorry to learn of his passing… thoughts and prayers to Galina and his children.

I got to know Artem over the course of several years as my advisor. I will never forget how kind and helpful he was to me. If I close my eyes I can still see myself sitting in his office and his smile that lit up his face all the way to his eyes. He was a wonderful man and the world is emptier with his passing. My lab members and myself in Australia have been collaborating with Artem on various research projects over the last few years, it has been a privilege and a rewarding experience to work with him. His good advice and help with dealing with writing our grant applications was much appreciated, and he will be missed here in Aus.

Your loss is a hard one to process. You were the first professor I TA'd under, and I remember being extremely intimidated by you and your quiet and serious tone. After getting more comfortable, I was able to see your goofy side shine through. My favorite was the way you would make ironic statements (as jokes) to  your students, who would be left in a state of confusion, because they couldn't figure out if you were being serious or not because your tone did not change. I would see you turn away, crack a smile, and laugh quietly to yourself....it melted my heart seeing your playful side. 

You were a great mentor and I always felt comfortable coming to you with questions, even about my own research. You will be greatly missed. 

Galina, my heart breaks for you and your family. He was a great man.

Dear Prof. Galina and Family,

We are extremely sad and shocked with this news. We are sorry that we could not do any favor to you during this difficult time. Prof. Artem is one of the rarest, kind human I ever met in my life. I remember my early days at Clarkson, way back in 2015, he was supportive, helpful and polite. He helped me and Madhura, even a couple of weeks ago during Madhura's Ph.D. defense.
