Wes married Eloise in 1939 and they enjoyed 72 years of marriage. They had two sons. Robert predeceased Wes, and his son Kenneth (Cindy) currently lives in Washington State.
Wes has eight grandchildren; Linda Warden (Lyle), Robert, Donald, Lori Schofield (Dan), Dawn Nelson (Don), Kenneth, Keith (Lacie), and Kyle (Cheryl). He has six great grandchildren.
Wes was in the grocery business for many years. He and Eloise owned their own grocery store and later Wes went on to manage stores for Tradewell and Safeway. As a store manager, he won many awards for his outstanding service.
Wes was a member of Kiwanis Club for over 65 years. He and Eloise were supporters of Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp for Children with Special Needs. He was also a supporter of Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program.
During his lifetime, Wes had many interests and hobbies. He and Eloise enjoyed traveling and camping in their various trailers. He spent many winters in Arizona soaking up the sun. Wes’ hobbies included bowling, photography and flying. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and feeding the wildlife that was attracted to the many feeders in his backyard. Wes enjoyed trips to the Ridgefield Natural Wildlife Preserve.
Wes had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to try out new jokes and he enjoyed reading the daily comics. He tried to keep up with the culture of today, getting his first e-mail account when he was well into his 80’s. He would occasionally ask friends and family to explain what an app was, or ask if they knew what a twitter or a facebook was about. He was shocked to learn that lol stood for “laugh out loud” and not “little old lady.”
Most of all, Wes was a kind and gentle man, loved by everyone who knew him. Wes valued and treasured time spent with his family and friends and he would enjoy nothing more than sharing a meal or a conversation with a loved one.
