Wayne Lowell Holmes

Wayne was born on July 20, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Lowell A. Holmes and Alethea (Marsh) Holmes.

In Minneapolis, Wayne was confirmed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, graduated from Roosevelt High School, and attended the University of Minnesota.

Wayne had many passions throughout his life. He loved baseball and was briefly under contract with the Minnesota Twins. He was also the proud founder of Music Village, with stores in Bend, Eugene, Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Portland, Oregon. As an avid stamp collector, Wayne was a dedicated member of the Oregon Stamp Society (OSS) and played an important role in establishing its philatelic library.

Wayne cherished time spent on his farm in Beaver Creek, where he enjoyed trail rides with his three horses. He loved taking his grandchildren on fishing trips, with special joy in the overnight stays on the boat, sharing stories and laughter under the stars. A devoted Oregon State University Beavers fan, Wayne proudly flew their flag outside his home and attended many games. His love of country western music led him to form his own band, creating lifelong memories. One of his most treasured experiences was traveling to Omaha for the College World Series with Kathi's oldest grandson, Colin. Wayne deeply loved his grandchildren and took immense pride in the time they spent together, always eager to embark on new adventures with them.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Kathi (Maki) Holmes; his son, Daryl Morey, from his first marriage to Judith (Hess) Morey; and his sons, Wayne William Holmes (Bill) and Darren Holmes, along with stepson Dan Goss, from his second marriage to the late Sandra Mae (Pfrangle) Holmes. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce, and sister, Sandra Lee (Holmes) Harder; 10 cherished grandchildren—Alex, Erik, and Autumn (children of Daryl Morey); Mackenzie and Althea (children of Bill); Kaelee, Ashlee, and Zeneb (children of Darren); Daniel and Zackary (children of Dan Goss)—as well as Kathi’s three children, their spouses, and Kathi’s five beloved grandchildren.

A graveside service for Wayne will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, Oregon 97229. He will be laid to rest at Skyline Memorial Gardens, surrounded by those who loved him.
