Rita Ann Altenhofen Driver

Rita Ann Altenhofen Driver, aged 82, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, at Sunnyside Meadows. Rita was born on April 18th, 1942, in Portland, Oregon, to Frank and Dorothy Altenhofen. She attended St Rose Grade School and Holy Child Academy. Over her lifetime she was a member of St. Rose of Lima and St Therese Catholic Churches.

After meeting while they both worked on Fremont St, she married William J Driver Jr in 1965 after a whirlwind 3 month courtship. He proceeded her in death in Oct 1985. Before her marriage she was a beauty operator and continued doing hair at home while she raised her family. When her husband died, she worked in various industries and ended up finding her niche at Providence Elderplace-Cully where she worked until she retired.

Rita loved playing cards and participated in various card groups through out her life. She also led card groups for residents at Elderplace-Cully and organized other activities and blessings to enhance their daily lives. Rita always had a sense of humor, loved her family, ice cream and held high regard for the gift of service to others. In her last years of life, as she struggled with memory loss, Rita fell in love with coloring again and was so proud of her artwork. When she colored she was always smiling. She would want to be remembered with fondness.

She is survived by her children, Daughters Dorothy Driver, Elizabeth Morgan (Scott) and Son William J Driver III; Grandchildren Charles Morgan, Francine Schriever(Jacob), Kenneth Driver; Great Grandchildren Ryder Schriever, Liam Schriever; Brother Tom Altenhofen and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Ken, Ed, Bob, Vince Jim, John and her sister Tede Altenhofen.

On Thursday, October 3, 2024 a recitation of the rosary and a funeral mass will occur at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 2727 Ne 54th Ave, Portland, Or 97213. A burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 333 SW Skyline Blvd, Portland, Or 97221.
