Richard Ralph Goff was born in Forest Grove, Oregon on February 6, 1933, the oldest son of Ralph Barnes and Margaret (Scott) Goff. He grew up in the Forest Grove area and attended the Hillside Grade School, graduating from Forest Grove High School in 1951.
When Richard was 18, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He completed his Basic Training in Camp Pickett, Virginia and Medical Training in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was stationed in Korea and served as a Technical Sergeant at a Medical Aid Station there, returning home with an honorable discharge in 1955.
On June 28, 1955, he married Louise Entsminger in Arlington, WA. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary later this month.
He and Louise farmed in the Thatcher/Hillside area outside Forest Grove for several years until they moved to Iowa where they continued farming. The family moved back to Oregon, settling on a dairy farm in Turner until 1985.
They managed apartments for several years in the Portland area and then in Phoenix, AZ before moving back to Portland. Richard retired and he and Louise moved to Oregon City, where he was caretaker of a farm for 15 years. In 2017 they moved to Wilsonville.
On June 22nd, 1946, at the age of 13, Richard came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior through the scripture verse John 5:24:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
He was a faithful and consistent Christian and an active member at a number of Gospel Halls in. Forest Grove, Oregon; Stout, Iowa; Phoenix, Arizona; and Salem, Oregon.
Richard enjoyed reading books, music, travel, gardening, and farming. Richard’s favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. He left an enormous impact for good on each of his five children, all of his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife, Louise Goff, of Wilsonville; and five children, Debra (Duncan) Bethel, Vashon, WA, Richard (Susan) Goff, Salem, Brenda (Brian) Groshong, Eugene, Barbara Goff, Kirkland, WA, and Kandis (Rick) Hulteng, Tualatin. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and two brothers and a sister: Gaius (Linda) Goff, Marysville, WA, Phoebe Goff, Forest Grove, OR, and Scott (Elizabeth) Goff, Forest Grove, OR.
He was preceded in death by his sister Marguerite Hill, and a grandson, Shannon Feary.
