Richard 'Kanaka' Edayan passed away peacefully on October 30, 2020 at the age of 56, in Portland, Oregon. He was surrounded with an abundance of love, mana and prayer from family and friends near and far.
Born in Waialua, Oahu to Elias and Lily Edayan. He was the youngest sibling of (8) brothers: Reuben, Ralph, Whitney, Derwin, Don, Ryan, Gino, Antonio, and (4) sisters: Yvonne, Delphine, Diane, and Pacita.
He is survived by his wife Charlene, (3) daughters Jasmine, Nicole, Richelle and (6) grandchildren: Ciarra, Stephen Jr., Camille, Chanelle, Matthew and Kai.
He worked for the City and County of Honolulu refuse (Waialua yard) for 9 years before moving to Oregon to become a dedicated Trimet bus operator for the past 20 years. He continued his love of the outdoors, singing and playing the ukulele. Our 'Kanaka,' Husband, Father, Popo, Brother, Uncle and Friend is greatly missed, for there is not another Hawaiian like him.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. PST in Portland, Oregon. Due to Covid restrictions this gathering is limited. However, we extend with open arms an invite to all who would like to celebrate his life with us that day to view the service live via Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary & Sunset Hills Memorial Park's website, www.dignitymemorial.com A link will also be provided via their FB page.
