Richard was a WWII era veteran having served in the US Army and as a Captain in the
California Air National Guard. He was born in Vallejo, California and
graduated from Oregon State University. He worked for the Soil
Conservation Service, USDA, as a soil scientist in Fresno, California,
Washington DC and Portland, Oregon where he retired after more than 40
years of service in 1993.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Diane Erickson Dierking
(Portland, OR), his brother John Dierking (Sacramento, CA) and his
granddaughter, Brianna Leon (Portland, OR). Richard is survived by his
sister Nuella Armbruster (Calabasas, CA), his daughters, Rochelle Caffee
(Tigard, OR) and Rebecca Bergio (Milwaukie, OR) and his sons, Earl
Dierking (Vancouver, WA), Eric Dierking (Denver, CO) and Mark Dierking
(Seattle, WA). Richard left behind thirteen grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren.
The family asks that any memorial donations are made to
the Sierra Club.
