Reva Virnetta Ortez was born in Texas County, Missouri, to parents Daniel and Opal (Stepp) Altis on November 12, 1929. She was sister to Edith, Dana, and Millard. They later settled in Northeast Portland near Madison High School. She was blessed with three children: a son, Dan; and two daughters, Judi, and Mary.

At Discount Fabrics, she worked her way up to the title of District Manager and later her career influenced a relocation to Yakima, WA and later Eugene. Following her time at Discount Fabrics, Reva worked in various retail positions.
Reva was a gifted seamstress. She loved to sew and she fashioned beautiful costumes and dance outfits for her daughters Judi and Mary. She also sewed and donated special items for Shriners Hospital for Children. Reva was a devoted member of Eastern Star.
