R. Harry Krombein went home to be with his LORD on Saturday, September 28, 2013, when he finally succumbed to kidney failure. He passed away peacefully in the home of and under the loving care of his daughter Carol and son-in-law Michael Lowe. Dad was the youngest of four brothers and one sister, born to R.H. and Sophia Krombein.
Dad was born in his home on Union Avenue at Failing and at six months of age his family moved to 2804 N.E. 18th Avenue, where he lived until his marriage to his beloved wife, Mabel Louise Pope. They were married on September 4, 1943 in Trinity Tabernacle located at 10th and N.E. Weidler, with her father, the Rev. Dr. Willard H. Pope, officiating.
About 1947 Dad started his own company, Krombein Builders, building homes in the Portland area, two of which we lived in. In 1957 or 58 Dad started working for the Cadonau family at Alpenrose Dairy. Carl Sr. had the ideas and Dad built it! He retired from the dairy in 1985.
Dad and Mom spent their leisure time boating. In later years as members of Tyee Yacht Club, but always as “boating buddies” of the Tufford’s and the Lee’s.
In 2008 after the passing of our Mother, Carol and Mike opened their home to Dad where he enjoyed watching his five great-grand children grow.
