Mike was born in Champaign-Urbana, IL to Max and Gwendolyn (Clark) Dougherty. He was the first grandchild born of Max’s 9 brothers and sisters as well as Gwen’s 4 sisters and brother. His sister, Anita, was born in December 1959. The family moved to Fullerton, CA when he was 5 years old. At 15, his family moved to Portland, OR where he attended Sunset High School. At 22, he married his high school sweetheart, Leanne Wall. They made their home in the Beaverton/Hillsboro, OR area. Mike and Leanne celebrated their 40th anniversary in June 2021.
Mike had a terrific memory. He was witty and had a great sense of humor. These qualities made him very good at most everything. He was a musician at heart and was a talented drummer. He also played bass and guitar. During his life, he was a machinist, apartment manager, maintenance man, and advertising executive for several companies including radio and print. He became a Realtor, and later sold pre-need life insurance.
Mike attended Evergreen Presbyterian church for 25+ years. He had a heart for helping people and worked with mission teams to help neighbors with yardwork and home maintenance. He was a leader in the Saturday night worship band for 7 years. Mike loved the beach and especially enjoyed spending time at Neskowin, Oregon. He enjoyed his dogs, fixing cars and things around the house, golf, and the NFL. He was an excellent cook, both in the kitchen and out on the deck grilling, smoking, and barbecuing.
