Maxine was born on April 12, 1925 in Topeka, Kansas; her parents were Bertha Potthoff Huth and Carl Frederick Huth. The family lived in Olpe, Kansas where she attended a one room Lutheran school at Zion Lutheran Church for her first six years of schooling. They family lived in Olpe until 1937, then the family moved to Oregon and settled in the Blooming area south of Cornelius. Maxine attended another one room school at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for the rest of grade school. She later enrolled at Hillsboro High School and graduated in 1943. After graduation she went to work at W. E. Finzer Company in Portland, Oregon as a bookkeeper. During the period she was working, she met her husband, Richard Kraus. They were married in 1952 and settled in the Beaverton area. During the following years they had two children. Mrs. Kraus was fortunate enough to be able to stay home with them and be a homemaker. When the children were in high school, she became a seamstress at Walton Tailoring. She retired at the age of 82, after working thirty-two years at J. C. Penney in Washington Square Mall. She loved spending time with family and friends, her cats and grand-dogs. Her favorite vacations were to the Oregon coast and the islands of Hawaii.
Richard, her husband of 39 years, preceded her in death in 1991. Her parents Carl and Bertha Huth, sisters Alberta McClung and Carol Davis, brothers Carl Jr. Huth and Robert Huth, nephews Michael McClung and Michael Huth, and niece Rebecca Moore have also passed on. She is survived by her daughter Julie Grewal, son-in-law Gulsher Grewal, son Larry Kraus and his fiancé Rhonda Lunn. She has two living brothers Dale Huth and Daniel Huth. She has also enjoyed the love of numerous nieces and nephews over the years. She was a long-time member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church since 1941.
