Lucille Iola Horner was born on May 7, 1934 at 9:30 AM in Milwaukie, Oregon. She was the daughter of Lewis Elmer Hicks and Eva Iola Hicks and grew up with her two siblings, Mildred and Richard, in Kellogg Park in Milwaukie, Oregon. Lucille battled Alzheimer’s disease for the last 10 years of her life. At 89 years old, Lucille passed away peacefully in her residence on June 30, 2023 at 8:20 AM alongside her daughter, Roberta.
Lucille raised four children with her husband, Jack Horner, in the Woodstock area of Portland, Oregon. Lucille went on to live in the same home for 50 years before moving into a retirement community.
Lucille is survived by her children Richard Horner, Rebecca Morris, Roberta Horner, and Rodrick Horner, her grandchildren, Marcell, Jessica, Nicholas, Kalah, JohnPaul, Joshua, Joseph, Erica, and Camryn, and her great grandchildren Rowan, Aria, and Sloane.
Lucille will be remembered by her greatest passion in life, which was raising her children and creating a welcoming home with delicious meals and care. Her joy was having her children and their friends in her home, being involved in their lives and later, making wonderful memories with her grandchildren. Lucille’s heart for tradition made holidays and birthdays very special for her family.
From her volunteer work at Kaiser Hospital through her final days, Lucille was known for leaving an impact wherever she went. People described her as having a servant’s heart giving of her time and resources, and those around her enjoyed spending time with her. Lucille was dearly loved.
Lucille’s Celebration of Life will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, Oregon 97086 on July 20, 2023. The service will be at 2:00 PM followed by a reception. In honor of her enjoyment of watching her sons and grandsons play baseball and softball, all of those who played the game are encouraged to wear a baseball or softball jersey to the funeral.
