Li Quan Yu was born on September 15, 1953 in China. He grew up in the small town of Tai Shan, where he lived for the first 45 years of his life. He graduated high school and went on to work for twenty years at a sugarcane company. Li later opened his own grocery store, running it for four years. On January 23, 2002, at the age of 49, Li moved to the United States with his wife and daughter. He loved the scenic beauty that Oregon had to offer and more than anything he was proud to live out the American Dream. When he was able to purchase a home and a car for his family, he knew he had accomplished this dream.
During his time in the United States, he was a cook at a Chinese restaurant and worked at China Express in a Safeway store. Li was a street smart and funny man. When faced with new information, he would really take it in and make sure to adapt his thinking according to what seemed right or wrong. He paid attention to detail and he was a very handy man. He managed to fix just about anything in the home that needed repair and especially enjoyed working with electronics. He could be found making new things out of old or broken ones. Li also enjoyed collecting; particularly rocks and coins. He loved to travel, traveling with his wife around China and all along the west coast, once they arrived in the states.
Li is survived by his wife of forty years, Qian Jing Li; his daughter, Dan Hui Yu; son-in-law, Jian-Ju Kuang and grandchildren, William and Cameron Kuang.
