John D Timberman

John Timberman, 91, passed peacefully on November 12, 2020 at his care home in Portland Oregon. John was born in Huron, South Dakota February 24, 1929. His parents, Sarah A. Timberman (Davies) and Galen E. Timberman had 9 children, Cole J., Allen E., Doris F., Carol M., John D., Joan L., Elizabeth S., Charles Harve and Patricia H. John is survived by two of his sisters, Doris and Joan.

The family moved to Oregon around 1934 as part of the dust bowl migration settling in Oregon City, where John graduated from Oregon City High School. John married the love of his life, Margaret (Peggy) Ann Owens on August 18, 1950. John joined the Navy July 1948, served proudly on the USS Prairie and was honorably discharged July 1952 having earned a Korean Service Ribbon, A China Service Ribbon and a United Nations Service Medal.

John and Peggy raised their family first in California (San Diego and San Jose) and then returned home to Oregon in 1965 settling in Aloha. John and Peggy had 5 sons, Michael, Cole (wife Neva), Richard (wife Terri), John E. and Allen Joel. John has 3 grandchildren from his son Cole and wife Neva, Rebecca, Nathan and David. John lost his beloved wife Peggy to cancer February 10, 1987.

John was a skilled Tool and Die Maker, building on the skills he initially learned in the Navy and spent many years working at and eventually retiring from Tektronix in Beaverton Oregon. He used his skills to build model engines in his home machine shop.

John loved camping/fishing, rock-hounding and square dancing with his wife Peggy and hunting with his family in Eastern Oregon. John and Peggy were early and active members of Valley Squares, dancing with friends at the Aloha Grange Hall. They also traveled with the Rolling Squares (were founders), camping and dancing around the state. Later in life he enjoyed gardening, raising his own fruits and vegetables at his home in Forest Grove Oregon.

In 2018 John donated all his machine shop equipment and supplies to the Oregon Institute of Technology, supporting the education of future machinists.

At John’s request there will not be a service however donations to the American Cancer Society or Veteran’s organizations would be a great way to remember John.
