Glea Avis Schlegel, aged 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her Portland, Oregon home on Saturday October 5th 2024 due to natural causes. Glea was born on June 5th, 1943 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Brought up in the Catholic Church, Glea was a devout Catholic with a strong relationship and faith in God.
Her journey led her to Portland, Oregon where she attended and graduated from Sunset High school class of 1961. After graduation she met and soon after married Melvin Joseph Schlegel. Together they raised four children; Theresa, Annette, Kevin, and Tammy.
She was a professional in many different areas including the medical field as well as a seamstress, and homemaker.
Her hobbies includied , praying, watching her favorite soap operas " Young and the Restless" gardening, sewing, cooking, playing board games and spending time with family and many friends. She was also known for her wonderful hugs. As a woman of god, she loved fiercely, and forgave often, she will be sorely missed by many loved ones.
Glea was proceeded in death by her parents, Alfred Keogh and Nora Keogh/Smith; husband Melvin Schlegel; and siblings Doyle, Dwayne, Neil, and Carmen.
Glea is survived by her children Theresa Slade, Annette York, Kevin Schlegel, and Tammy Burns, sisters Catherine Webb and Nortia Farrell, brothers Dave and Dan Smith, along with her 10 grandchildren, 20+ great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be remembered by these words “You are Loved”.
The funeral service will be held on November 16, 2024, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church (2310 SE 148th Ave, Portland, OR 97233). The rosary begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m.and a reception/celebration after.
