Freddie received his education at Galilee Primary and High School in Hallsville, Texas. He went on into college and received his degree Master’s Degree and taught in High School. He retired as a High School Teacher.
Freddie joined the U.S. State Army on August 31, 1965 he served in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and expert rifleman’s award. He served his country until July 21, 1967 when he was Honorable discharged from the Army.
He was united in marriage to Gloria Faggett and there they raised two children Kendrick Mitchell and Denise Mitchell both of Portland, Oregon. Two sons in spirit Dominic Manning of Kent, Washington and Eugene Manning of Portland, Oregon.
Freddie was so very active in his community taught carpentry, baseball coach and Nemours others activities.
Freddie leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife Gloria, son, Kendrick (Nikki) Mitchell, daughter, Denise Mitchell sons in spirit, Dominic and Eugene Manning, his brothers Rev. C.E. Mitchell, George Mitchell Jr., brothers in spirit Dwaine and O.Z. Taylor, sisters Dorothy Harris, Nelvin Morning and Betty Jones. He is also survived by his grandchildren Keaundra and Kyra Mitchell and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Freddie is preceded in death by his parents George and Ida Mitchell, Brothers Carlos, Charles and Martin Mitchell and a sister Merlene Grimes.
Did you ever meet someone from Mr. George Dewey and Ida Mitchell’s family from East Texas? They raised a very religious family. Times were hard but family values came first. Freddie would always want to be on the giving end than on the receiving end. No matter what time of the year or the day if you needed help he was there.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and whom he touch in his life.
