She was born in Portland, Oct. 8, 1997, to parents William and Melody Lang. She attended Laurelhurst Elementary, St. Mary’s Academy and Western Washington University.
Emily enjoyed working as a lifeguard during her summer vacations from school at Grant and Montavilla Pools. She also worked as a lifeguard for WWU Student Recreation Center Pool from September 2016- June 2017.
Emily participated in a Mission trip to Mexico in 2014 with the Portland First Covenant Church Youth Group to build a house and was a volunteer with the “Girls on the Run” after school program in Bellingham, Wash. She had a passion for learning and helping others and was pursuing a BS in Biology so as to become a Physician's Assistant. She played varsity soccer at St. Mary’s for four years, and as a Senior was named to second team,Three Rivers All-League Girls Soccer. She also ran in state track and competed with the St. Mary’s Dragon Boat Team; all while maintaining her grades as an honors student during her high school and college years. Emily enjoyed camping, kayaking, hiking, running, biking and all things outdoors. She also liked to relax and unwind while watching reruns of Seinfeld, Friends and M.A.S.H. She will be remembered for her wonderful smile, inspiring integrity, humility, determination, healthy sarcasm and love for nature.
Emily was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by parents, Bill and Melody Lang of Portland; brother, Colby Lang of Portland; niece, Avalyn Lang and her mother, Cathleen, of Portland; aunt, Jan Lang of Seattle; uncles, Gary Halstead of Seattle and Chris (Judy) Hickey of Portland; cousins, Jaclyn Hickey, Jamy Rippe and Joe Rippe; grandparents, Diane and Jim Cartwright of Salem; grandfather, Wayne Hickey of Portland; great-aunts, Peg Moore of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Janice (Jesse) Ketchum-Morar of Las Vegas, Anne Lang of Three Rivers, Calif.; and seven second cousins.
Memorial Service to be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at Eastridge Church, 14100 S.E. Sunnyside Rd., Clackamas, OR 97015.
