Born July 26, 1947, in Portland, Oregon, Bruce Dennis Hill passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was 76 years old. Unfortunately, Bruce had been suffering through an Alzheimer’s diagnosis for the past 7 years. Although there is grief, it is a blessing that his suffering has ended; he has been restored to full health, and he is beside our Lord providing guidance from above.
Bruce grew up all over the Northwest, including Portland, Roseburg, and Longview, as his father moved around for work. Having moved back to Portland for high school, Bruce would meet his wife, Nancy, and marry in January of 1970. Together they ended up settling in Gresham, OR where they would raise their family. Their children Stephanie, Tyler, and Lindsay would enjoy a full childhood filled with cherished memories, and most importantly, love. Bruce valued honesty, moderation, and hard work. He had a warm disposition, great sense of humor, and could make friends with anyone during even the briefest encounter. This served him well in his young career, as he would enjoy success at Liquid Air, and later in route sales with Boyd’s Coffee, before becoming an ownership partner in 1979 at Bar-Tur Foods, a restaurant food distribution company, where he remained until retirement.
Having lived near and caddying at Rose City Golf Course as a young man, his hobbies included playing and watching golf, bowling, as well as following local sports heroes, the New York Yankees, and Oregon Ducks Football. He also enjoyed reading and history. Later in life, he and Nancy developed a love for the outdoors, traveling and hiking to many of our country’s most beautiful locations. However, no hobby could rival the passion he had for his family. Whether it was cooking breakfast for them, watching their activities, or taking them to Ducks football games, his love was constantly poured into his family. His commitment to, and sacrifices for those he loved, will echo for generations.
Bruce is survived by his wife Nancy, his children Stephanie, Tyler and Lindsay, and his grandchildren Scarlett, Sophie, Zachary, Gavyn, Harper, Hayley, Elizabeth, Evelyn, and Harrison. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Margaret Hill, as well as his sister Marilyn. A celebration of life will be held at Abundant Life Church on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 1:30 pm.
