Barbara Jean Allen, 83, of Portland, Oregon, passed away May 16, 2013. Born August 11, 1929 in Portland, she was the daughter of the late Myron and Bertha (Helberg) Clark. Barbara graduated from Washington High School in 1947. She then attended Oregon State University for a short time before meeting her future husband, Dwight Allen. They were married in 1950 in the Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church and were by each other’s side until his passing in 2002.
Barbara enjoyed antiquing, playing bridge, and spending her time gardening; so much so that her yard was the envy of the neighborhood. One of her favorite pastimes was entertaining. She loved hosting dinners, holidays, and gatherings for friends and family. She was also dedicated to volunteering her time to the Albertina Kerr Centers.
Barbara was a steadfast caretaker, with strong values, and her focus on her family. A loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. She is survived by her daughter Terri Mallory and husband Gary; grandchildren: Jeff Mallory and wife Stefanie, Mike Mallory, Lindsay Bryant, and Jon Bryant; and great grandchildren Ashlee, Kylee, Zachariah, and Mychal.
A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 1:00pm at Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2420 NE Fairview Avenue, Fairview, Oregon 97024. Donations in her name may be made to the Albertina Kerr Centers by visiting their website, www.albertinakerr.org and following the “Donate Now” link at the top of the page.
