Sue Ellen (Parker, Russo) Brady, 72 of North Yarmouth passed away on January 25, 2015 at her home. Sue was born in Lewiston to her parents Charles Parker and Margaret “Pegge” (Maloney) Parker. Sue was one of nine children in her family and is survived by her brother Donald and his wife Beverly, Francis and Lawrence and sisters Lynda and her husband Freddy Muccino and Shelly Barrett and her husband Walter. Sue was pre-deceased by her brothers Leonard and Ralph and sister Genevieve Phillipo. She grew up on Peaks Island and in Portland, where she met the first love of her life husband John “Jack” Russo, who passed in 1988.
Sue and Jack were happily married for 29 years and leave behind their five children Muriel “Gina” Harmon and her husband James of Scarborough, Ann Marie Miller and her husband Michael of Georgia, Anthony “Tony” Russo of Florida, Genevieve “Gen-Gen” Estelle of Kentucky and Arlene “Lena” Stanley and her husband Christopher of North Yarmouth. Sue and Jack did a lot of work to help their community in Portland, where Jack served as manager of Riverton Park housing community and Sue worked to set up the Mother’s Club and the first Head Start program which is still going strong today. Sue loved her children, and was proud of their lives and accomplishments, especially the service to their country. Tony, Ann, and Gen-Gen served in the Army, where Tony was commended for earning a Bronze Star in operation Desert Storm, and hers sons-in-law James and Michael also served, and now several of her grand-children are currently serving their country. From her five children came eleven grand-children and fourteen great-grand-children who Sue loved dearly.
In 1990 Sue married the second wonderful man in her life, Frank Brady. They loved the grandkids so much that Sue switched careers from CNA to daycare provider, running her Color-Me-Happy daycare for many years. Sue and Frank were happy travelers, spending fun holidays in their Winnebago traveling the country, often with a few of the grand-kids along, and retiring to Florida. After Frank passed in 1997 Sue stayed in Florida for a few more years, working at Sea World’s Discovery Cove and Le Gourmet Chef, and enjoying her Red Hat Club. Sue returned to Maine where she lived in Portland for a few years before moving back to her home in North Yarmouth where she lived out her last years with her daughter Lena and son-in-law Chris. These last few months she loved spending time with her close-by family and her friend and care-giver Mitzi.
A service of remembrance will be held Monday, February 2 at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. in Portland at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to visit prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM.
