Ruth Jones passed peacefully on February 19, 2014 in her room at the Hoffman Center at the Cedars in Portland, Maine. She was 89. For the past seven years, she and her husband Robert have been residents of the Cedars complex. They moved to Portland to be near family.
Ruth Marilyn Kuch was born on April 9, 1924 in Norwalk, CT to Charles F. Kuch III and his wife Marguerite (Young) Kuch. Ruth and her brother Charles were raised by their paternal grandparents. She was a graduate of Norwalk High School and then Lasell Junior College in Newton, MA.
In 1956, she married Robert Jones and they moved to Needham, MA. Ruth spent many years working as a school secretary for Needham Schools and being the “neighborhood” mom, the “cool” mom”. She owned one of the first convertible VW bugs and also one of the first convertible Mustangs. She loved piling kids in the car and taking them out for ice cream or rides down “rollercoaster” roads. After her children graduated from school, she reveled in the great opportunity to travel with Bob and see the world.
In 1971, they relocated full-time to Cape Cod, Ruth’s summer home, living in West Hyannisport, East Sandwich, Hyannisport, and finally at KingsWay in Yarmouthport. Ruth was an accomplished artist, an avid sailor, gardener, swimmer, and bridge player. She belonged to Altrusa and the Osterville Garden Club. For many years, she was an active participant at the Hyannis Yacht Club, Hyannisport Golf Club, and the C.B.A. She was the captain of two boats the Split Shake, a Sunfish, and Grand Slam, a 26 ft Pearson.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Bob; her daughter Barri Lynn Moreau, her son-in-law Marcel Moreau and her granddaughter Maria Moreau in Portland. She is also survived by her son Bruce Jones, daughter-in-law Irene, granddaughter Nathalia and grandson Kyle living in Australia; and her cousin Charles Lockhart and many, many of her cousins’ children all over the United States.
Care for Ruth and her family has been entrusted to the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home of Portland.
