Robert A. Morris, 73, of Portland passed away at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a lifelong illness. He was born January 11, 1938 a son of Alexander and Pauline (Taylor) Morris. Robert attended Portland and South Portland Schools. He served in the National Guard for three years, during which time, he served one year on acitve duty in the Army, before working at Boston and Maine Railroad as a breakman. He retired a young age. He enjoyed playing cards and going to the Horse Races, any money he won there he would always give away to others. Robert will be remembered for his ability to always help others, his caring nature and his kindness to the elderly and the infirm.
Robert is survived by his mother Pauline (Taylor) Morris of South Portland, his brother Gordon Morris of Asheboro, sister Christine (Morris) Swasey and her husband Richard of South Portland; nephews Richard Swasey Jr and wife Mona of Pensacola, FL and Robert Swasey Sr and wife Susan of Rochester, NH as well as several great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Alexander C Morris.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Portland Center for Assisted Living, Barron Center, Maine Medical Center and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated 10 am Saturday November 12, 2011 at Saint Paul's Church 279 Congress St. Portland, Me. with the Rev. Samuel M. Logan officiating. Interment will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday November 16, 2011 at Forest City Cemetery, South Portland.
