BRYANT POND- Norman Floyd Moore Sr. , 77, passed away surrounded by loved ones on June 6th, 2024, in Portland. He was born in Rumford, ME, September 21st, 1946, to Floyd Lowden and Ida Mary Moore, both of whom have predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his two older brothers Terry and Bobby Moore.
In 1965, at 17 years old, Norman was drafted into the United States Army. While enlisted, he completed his Maine State High School Equivalency and received a graduate certificate on June 3rd, 1966. He spent some of his enlisted time stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
While in the Army, he was a Radio TT operator, and a sharpshooter, reaching a rank of SP4. He received the National Defense Service Medal, and a Sharpshooter Badge with a Rifle Bar. He was honorably discharged on November 18th, 1971.
He spent many years of his life working to support his family. He worked for the papermill in Jay until he retired.
He is survived by his four children, Daniel , Jennifer, Norman II, and Matthew, his adopted son Adam Smith, and 5 grandsons; Max, Wyatt, Iain, Colby and Koda. His favorite thing to do in this world was to spend any time he had with his two live-in grandsons; Colby and Koda Moore, who referred to him as "Gaga" or "Gampa".
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 30th, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hanover Cemetery, Main Street, Hanover, Maine. Followed by a pot-luck style celebration of life from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., at the American Legion Hall, Congress street, Rumford, Maine. All are welcome!
