Nicholas Amabile of Portland passed away peacefully on June 10th 2013, one day before his 83rd birthday. He was born in Portland, Maine on June 11, 1930 the son of Alphonsina (Alice) and Bellorefonte Amabile. He graduated from Portland High School in 1948. He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Nick began his career as a jeweler in 1954 at Springer’s Jewelers in Portland, ME. He later opened Amabile’s Jewelers on Congress Street in 1974. He retired in 1991 and spent much of his time at Scarborough Downs. Nick lived in Pine Point where he hosted countless parties and family get-togethers. He later moved to Milton Street in Portland. Over the past few years Nick lived with his niece Patty Wilson. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday June 14th at 10 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Church on Stevens Ave in Portland. Interment will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of Jones, Rich, and Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine.
