Mary Kay Burgess

Mary Katheryn Burgess, fondly known as Mary Kay, passed away after a prolonged illness on March 25, 2024. Born on October 24, 1943, she was the beloved daughter of Mary Phyllis (Dyer) Page and Almon Ralph Page, Jr.

Mary Kay's educational journey began in South Portland schools and culminated in her graduation from Waynflete School in 1962. Following high school, she ventured to New York where she embarked on a career with the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company, initiating a trajectory in banking that lasted until the late 1970s.

Upon her return to Maine, Mary Kay devoted her efforts to assisting her mother in managing the Dexter Motor Lodge in Dexter, Maine. It was during this time that she crossed paths with her future husband and soulmate, James (Jimmy) Burgess. They exchanged vows in 1984, marking the beginning of a remarkable partnership.

After the Motor Lodge changed hands, Mary Kay transitioned to a role with Sysco Foods in Newport, Maine, where she remained until her retirement. She embraced homemaking wholeheartedly and dedicated herself to caring for Jimmy until his passing.

Following Jimmy's departure, Mary Kay relocated to Southern Maine to be closer to her cherished family members, including her niece, Darcy Ramsdell, great-nieces and great-nephew, her sister-in-law, Barbara Page, grandchildren Devon and Joshua Burgess, as well as her aunt, Shirley Dyer.

Mary Kay will be fondly remembered for her exceptional hospitality, her affection for dogs and children, and her passion for cooking and entertaining. She and Jimmy delighted in hosting gatherings for friends, neighbors, and family, where 'cocktail hour' was a cherished tradition. She found joy in music, rooting for the Patriots, and nurturing her gardens, which was a source of pride.

Even during periods of ill health, Mary Kay remained abreast of her great nieces' and nephew's achievements and activities, taking immense pride in their endeavors. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of her loved ones, including her aunt, sister-in-law, cousins and niece, along with her devoted neighbor and friend, Phyllis Troddyn, who provided unwavering support and friendship for over 14 years.

Mary Kay will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Jimmy, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter, Maine. In accordance with her wishes, no formal service will be held.
