Marge was born in Boston, MA on November 13, 1934, the only child of Chesley and Ruth (Rand) Bell. The family lived in Wakefield, MA and moved to Shrewsbury, MA when she was 10 years old. She was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School and what was then Lasell Junior College.
Marge married the love of her life, Christie (Chris) Harding, on September 11, 1954, in the middle of a hurricane in Shrewsbury, MA. It was the start of a wonderful marriage of 64 years. They made their first home in West Boylston, MA and started a family. Their next stop was North Olmstead, Ohio where they lived for 5 years before coming back to New England. They spent 10 wonderful years in Darien, CT raising their children and enjoying fun times with many friends. Marge was well known as “the hostess with the mostest”. She loved to cook and try new recipes. She was always reading cookbooks and checking out recipes in magazines. She enjoyed having friends over on weekends and family came to visit frequently. She continued that tradition in Maine when she and Chris purchased Schultz Interiors, a furniture sales, upholstery and decorating business in Falmouth, ME and moved to Cape Elizabeth, ME in 1976. Marge and Chris ran the business together. “Mr. & Mrs. Schultz” were a great team. Many of their clients became very good friends. They sold the business and Chris “retired” in 2001. Marge was a much sought after home decorator and continued to work until she was 80 years old!
Marge and Chris moved to Atlantic Heights in Saco in 2008. She enjoyed being with Chris, traveling, cooking and spending time with family and friends. After Chris passed away in 2019, Marge moved to MA to live with her daughter, Judy and son-in-law, Al, in 2021.
Marge’s family is grateful to friends and family for their support over the past several years. Special thanks to the caregivers at Comfort Keepers in Maine and Massachusetts and at Putnam Farm in Danvers, MA where Marge lived for the last 15 months of her life. Their compassionate care made a significant difference in her final years.
Marge is predeceased by her husband, Christie Harding. She is survived by daughter Judy Johnson and her husband Al of Topsfield, MA; son Chris Harding and his wife Melissa of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren Kayla Vatsinaris, A.J. Johnson, Megan Dvilinsky, Daniel Johnson and great grandchildren, Audrey, Ellie, Tucker, Tatum, Piper and Addison.
A graveside service will be held in August in Cape Elizabeth, ME. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Marge’s memory to the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts, a local food pantry or other charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, Portland.
