Born on August 4, 1920 in Portland, ME, she was the daughter of Ann Elizabeth and Archibald Sabin Parker. Margaret, better known as Marnie, which was a nickname she gave herself as a child, grew up in South Portland, ME and attended local schools, graduating from South Portland High School.
She attended Colby College in Waterville, ME where she majored in French with a minor in German. She also met the love of her life there: Alfred Timberlake, of Livermore Falls, ME. After graduation from Colby College, Marnie and Al married and spent the next forty-four years together until Al died in 1986.
Marnie pursued a job in education and began teaching when her children were in middle school. She taught English at Deering High School before switching to the French Department. Her final education position before retiring was as Head of the French Department at Westbrook High School.
Along the way, Marnie and Al were blessed with two daughters, Nancy and Sharon. She encouraged them to pursue higher education and their career goals. Nancy Rae Timberlake graduated from Mount Holyoke College and Dr. Sharon Elizabeth Timberlake graduated from Colby College and obtained her doctorate from the University of Southern Maine.
Marnie and Al loved to travel and managed to hit all the high points in Europe. Marnie especially loved Paris. She and Al also loved vacationing in Bermuda. The couple often went dancing together, and Marnie continued dancing for the rest of her life, line dancing regularly until her early 90’s.
Marnie always loved animals although allergies prevented her from having many. Her poodle Pierre was much beloved, and she enjoyed daughter Sharon’s dogs throughout her later years.
Marnie is survived by her loving daughters Sharon Timberlake of Portland, ME and Nancy Timberlake of Portland, ME and Santa Fe, NM, her son-in-law Lawrence Herdade, spouse of Nancy, and her granddaughter Amber Herdade of Auburn, ME with whom she shared a love of horses and riding. She is also survived by her grandson, Mark O’Donal of Union, ME. She will be much missed by family and friends.
