Litchfield, ME – Leona E. (Walker) Coffin, 85, of Litchfield and formerly of Portland, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at her home. She was the wife of the late Harold M. Coffin Sr.
Leona was born in Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada on December 31, 1924, a daughter of the late Clarence & Margaret (Comeou) Walker. She attended schools in Nova Scotia before moving to Maine at the age of sixteen.
Leona worked for St. Joseph’s Manor in Portland for 15 years as the housekeeping supervisor, where she was respected by her staff and she held a great fondness for them.
She was a loving and devoted mother to her five children caring for them with a gentle touch. She will also be remembered for her generosity and her soft heartedness.
She passed her time with crossword puzzles, crocheting and was an avid viewer of Fox News and MSNBC.
She is survived by four children, Carmon L. Coffin and his wife Janet of Gorham, Margaret E. Russell of Portland, Anne M. Guzman of Litchfield and Eugene C. Coffin of Portland. She also leaves her 12 grandchildren Melinda, Sarah, Jared, Charlene, James, Harold, David, Chris, Tamara, George, Jamie, Rachel and Bryan and 16 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was also the Mother of the late Harold M. Coffin, Jr. who died in 1985, the grandmother of the late Carmon Scamman & Ronald Guzman, and the sister of the late Ruth, Rita, Mary and Eugene.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, December 17, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Philip Shearman officiating.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Portland.
