Hazel Swaim, 96, residing in Conklin, NY, died December 10, 2022, in Oneida, NY, after a brief illness.
She was born September 26, 1926, in New Brunswick, Canada to Merle and Vera Hallett. Her parents moved the family to Portland, Maine, where Hazel graduated from High School and continued her education at Providence Bible Institute.
Hazel attended the First Baptist Church of Portland with her family. It was there where she met and later married Alan Swaim. Hazel and Alan were married for over 50 years and had five children.
Hazel loved serving in the church alongside Alan, as the Pastor's wife throughout Maine, Pennsylvania, and New York.
She was involved with Scouting, Awana, Pioneer Girls, Sunday School, choir, and Women's Missionary Society.
She worked for J.C. Penney for over 25 years. She loved sewing and crafting. She also enjoyed gardening and playing games with the family.
She is predeceased by two sisters, Rowena Brown of Baltimore, Maryland, Leola Riley of Portland, Maine, her son Peter of Portland, Maine, daughter Patti (Harris), of Bay Shore, NY, and husband, Rev. Alan Swaim of Conklin, NY.
She is survived by her brother, Merle (Barbara) Hallett of Falmouth Foreside, Maine, and her three daughters, Paige Swaim of Chittenango, NY, Pamela (Thomas) Gargiulo of Mastic Beach, NY, and Paula (Larry) Ellis, of Binghamton, NY.
She had 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.
A graveside service is planned at Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth, Maine, Spring 2023.
