March, 26, 1953 – January, 10, 2024
It is with great sadness and grief that we announce the passing of David Bruce Howes, 70, on January, 10th, 2024 at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, Maine with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with Cancer.
A longtime resident of Lewiston, born in Rumford on March, 26, 1953, a son of Alton W. and Margaret (McHale) Howes. David was known for his extremely hard work ethic, his loyalty, his strength to persevere through difficult times, and his generous huge heart. If he had it, and you needed it, then it was yours. Most of all, he was a proud dad and grandfather, also known as Pa. He would talk about how proud he was of his children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen.
He was educated in Rumford schools and graduated from Mountain Valley High School. He was a hard working man his entire life, early on working as a painter, painting the Kings Dominion in Virginia which he was very proud of. He went on to work at Country Kitchen in Lewiston where he put in endless hours working the overnight shift for over 20 years. Later in life, he worked for a paving company for over 15 years where he built many close relationships and considered them family. Throughout his younger years, he enjoyed playing cards at the Lewiston Social with friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and companion, Bette, going to the Casino, taking trips to Las Vegas, and enjoying rides to the coast to enjoy some fresh seafood. He absolutely loved to eat and enjoy great food. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, taking car rides, sitting outside enjoying the sunshine with his daughter, Sherri or bringing his daughter Crystal her favorite coffee. He always loved horse racing whether it was going to watch the horses run around the track at Scarborough Downs, attending Windsor Fair Week, and his all time favorite OTB (Off Track Betting) where he made many friends over the years. Above all, he was a family man and an absolutely amazing and proud Dad, brother, son, Pa, companion and friend to all who knew him.
David is survived by his companion; Bette Barajas, her children and grandchildren of Windsor, ME, long time friend and mother of his girls, Jacqueline Howes of Lewiston, ME; his children, Sherri Sylvester and husband, Chad of Sabattus, ME, Crystal Howes and companion, Derek of Lewiston, ME, and Shane Howes and companion, Bobbie Lee of Carmel, ME; his sister Margaret Howes of Florida, sister in law Kathy of Ft.
