Charles W. Hamilton

Charles, 88, fondly known as Chuck, of South Portland, ME, passed away peacefully at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth. He was surrounded by his two loving daughters and adored granddaughter. Chuck was compassionately cared for during his 5 year journey with dementia.

He was born in the township of Hinsdale, NY, the son of the late Marguerite and Walter Hamilton. At age 19, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Field Radio Operator.

He went on to work at the Portland Water District, retiring after 35 years as their Meter Shop Foreman. He enjoyed deer hunting and going up to camp. Chuck and his best friend John Woodruff, known as Woody,

volunteered for a few years in the emergency room of Mercy Hospital.

They became known as the WoodChucks! Their banter and sense of humor delighted the staff and patients.

He and his granddaughter Sarah had a very special bond. He lit up every time she was nearby. Playing cards, exchanging peace signs, and sharing funny expressions that are cherished memories now.

Chuck was predeceased in 2005 by the love of his life, his wife Pat. They loved spending time with their family and grandchildren. They took annual trips to Las Vegas and also enjoyed visiting family in NY.

Chuck was predeceased by his brother, Earl Hamilton and also his sister, Lucy McKelvy. He enjoyed talking to and teasing his sister, Sr. Harriet Hamilton of Cortland, NY.

Chuck had a very dry sense of humor, and enjoyed telling stories and funny jokes. His everlasting spirit will live on in the lives he left behind.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Linda Murrill, her children, Sarah Bryant and her husband John, and their children Stella & JJ.

His son Stephen Hamilton, his wife Laurie and their children, Heather, Corey and Nathaniel. His daughter Dawn Brooks, her son Matthew and his family.

Chuck’s family would like to sincerely thank Sedgewood Commons and Affinity Hospice for their compassionate care.

When we lose someone we love we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind….

There will be a celebration of Chuck’s life planned for this summer.
