If I am not mistaken Doctor Brinkman  was the doctor that performed surgery on me as an infant as I had a form of Spinabifida ,I am grateful that he helped give me a better quality of life using his skill as a neurosurgeon .

Needed to have an arachnoid cyst taken care on in '83 and Doc did the work. Still erect and cruising, thanks to Carl. Lots of family history with the Brinkmans as his dad was our pcp. My "fondest" memory of him was when he stood at the head of my hospital bed and said," Icky I have to tell you that you may die as a result of this surgery." I said, "Now you tell me! Get on with it!"

For Dr.Brinkmans family, he was such a caring and loving also top shelf Dr. In his field~ he was my 7 yr olds Dr. After a hit and run driver left her unconscious in front of our house in 1965, "Thank You" for  Dr. Brinkmans great care she lived a healthy lovely life, will never forget what a great man he was..prayers for him and his family, Mona Button

Dear family, We have just learned of Carl's death and we send our sincere condolences to all of you. We have a favorite memory, made many years ago when we lived in Maryland and traveled to Maine for a visit with our three young children. Carl took our family out in his boat on a crystal clear lake on a glorious day in Maine. After the boat ride, he grilled hamburgers for us, some of the best we'd ever tasted. We've never forgotten that lovely afternoon or his grilling skills or his warm and easy hospitality. He is a first cousin with whom we had little contact, but who always had a special spot in our hearts because he took time to give us and our children a wonderful day out on the water. We are thankful for that.

In 1975, as a young Portland Firefighter, following a major injury to my spine, in a building collapse, when I lost one inch of my body height. I met with Dr. Brinkman. He guided me; cajoled me; and led me through the process of repairing the damage. In the process, he saved me from having to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. I will always remember him and how he helped me. My life has been very active thanks to my mobility and thanks to Dr. Brinkman. Today I am a Holistic Healer, giving back to others. Thank you, Sir, for helping to set me on this Path.  
Please know that his legacy lives on.

My condolences to the family of Dr. Carl Brinkman. I scrubbed many surgeries with him from 1977-1987. He was an excellent surgeon and I was proud to stand beside him for 10 years. He's partly responsible for the woman I am today. In May, he called me to say that he wanted to take me out, when he came home to Maine this summer. Deep down inside, I knew that would never happen. He stayed strong until the end and I will miss him terribly.

My condolences to Valerie, Shari, Jackie, and the rest of the Brinkman family. 

I have such vivid memories of the man we used to call 'Dr. Carl'. All of these memories are those of a teenager from 30 years ago, but are still very strong in my mind because he was such an extraordinary and memorable person: a rock-star surgeon (the doctor other doctors told their friends to see, I heard regularly), confirmed family man, avid competitor, almost child-like purveyor of fun and banter, and patient fly fisherman.

I knew him mostly through Valerie, but also through handy-work I did at the family's home, known back then as Brinknoll. While I was there, he was incredibly kind in spending time with me. Despite my youth and strong competitive streak, and the multitude of games we played, I can't remember ever beating Carl at anything. Especially tennis. Even though I played a lot and he was in his late 40's, he prevailed every time we went on the court, and my success in pinball and other games was much worse than tennis. But, after thoroughly trouncing me at something, he was always incredibly gracious (but with a little jab thrown in every once in a while). He was also generous with his time and his support to me and others around him, giving much and expecting little in return.

I remember Carl as handsome and gregarious with those that he knew. But I also remember him for his tremendous love and commitment to his family, including its four-legged members. It seemed that from the time that he entered his driveway at home, that he was all about his family, which was such a positive thing for me to observe as an impressionable teen.

Again, my condolences to Valerie, and to the others that Carl leaves behind.

Dr. Brinkman helped my mother with a spinal injury she had suffered while working at Pepperell Manufacturing Co. after she had been to countless other doctors.  I remember him as being very compassionate and caring.  My condolences to the Brinkman family.

Carl and I met while working together on a committee to build a dog park here in Bluffton, SC.  The time and energy he put forth for that cause is immeasurable.  I was shocked to hear of his passing.  My condolences to Jackie and the rest of his family.

Thank you Dr. Brinkman for having the amazing ability and caring attitude to save so many people's lives.  You saved my life in 1978 when I had a brain aneurysm while jogging.  I have since had a wonderful, wonderful life!  Two children and two grandchildren later!  You will be missed by many!  Thank you!

Carl was a classmate of mine at Yale Medical school 1953-1957- we remained in touch all these years, while at Yale we spent time at their family camp near Sugarloaf.  Carl was an extremely conscientious, careful physician and friend.  I will miss him,

Dear Brinkman family-  I referred a number of children to Carl during my 40 years as a general pediatrician in York County. He was always available, highly skilled and a  true gentleman. My parents and patients were always treated with courtesy and compassion. I remember one evening when Carl came down to Biddeford to examine a child in the hospital for me. 
I discovered he had not had supper so I took him downtown and bought him a  sandwich and we briefly discussed the current and future state of medicine. His family should be very proud.

Dr. Brinkman gave my mother, Marcella DiBiase, the gift of an additional 30 years of life after performing brain surgery on her February 14, 1966. The gratitude from our family can never be overstated. On behalf of our family, please accept our most sincere condolences during this most sorrowful time.

He was a great doctor and human.   I'm still hiking because in 1989 when I was 64 he wisely overrode the advice of another doctor to operate on my aching back.   He was also friendly, not an MDeity.
