Barry Warren Hamilton, 83, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving wife, on May 21, 2018. The son of Warren and Martha Hamilton, Barry was born February 23, 1935 in Portland and was raised in Falmouth. Barry graduated from Falmouth High School in 1954. After graduation he attended Westbrook Junior College and Maine Maritime Academy. He married the love of his life and his soulmate, Virginia (Ginny) Andreasen on April 30, 2000 in Falmouth.
Barry was a Merchant Marine Veteran and spent many years as the Chief Engineer on the Maine Maritime Academy training vessel the State of Maine, and also aboard the ship Lindonwald. Barry was appointed to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Naval Reserve on January 9, 1976.
Prior to his passing, Barry and Ginny, who were high school sweethearts, traveled extensively. They were happiest when they were sharing their time together. Their travels took them to Hawaii, Alaska, Columbia, Key West, Panama, the Caribbean Islands, Branson and Myrtle Beach just to name a few.
Barry volunteered his time on many occasions. His most memorable was traveling with Wreaths Across America where he had the privilege of placing a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He volunteered his time at the American Veterans Museum in South Portland. Barry was a 50 year member of the Masonic Temple, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Anah Shriners. Barry was very instrumental in lending his hands to all who needed his help.
Barry is survived by his wife of 18 years, Virginia (Ginny) Andreasen, sister-in-law, Judith (Andreasen) Reed, nephews Robert and Davin Andreasen, niece, Rebecca Reed and nephews Caston and Greysen Reed.
At Barry’s request there will be no funeral. A celebration of Barry’s life is scheduled for Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the Falmouth Congregational Church United Church of Christ, located at 267 Falmouth Road, Falmouth, ME at 2:00pm followed by refreshments.
