Anne Barker Schink died peacefully on November 13, 2022. Anne, daughter of Nathaniel and Rachel Adams Barker, was born in Presque Isle, Maine on December 15, 1941. Anne attended Presque Isle schools, graduated from the Cambridge School of Weston in MA, and received her BA in English from Russell Sage College in Troy, N. Y.
Anne moved to Philadelphia where she met George Schink and married in 1965. They moved to Washington, D.C. where their daughters Sarah and Ellen were born. She was a 50-year member of the League of Women Voters where she focused her energy on the Equal Rights Amendment, Reproductive Rights, Special Education, and the major changes in the Episcopal Church all happening at once. After raising her family in Philadelphia, Anne returned to Maine in 1993.
Anne worked with the AmeriCorps programs where she provided opportunities to develop a deep understanding of community service, volunteer management, and organizational development at a wide range of nonprofit organizations. She served on several other nonprofit boards and was an active member of St. Luke’s Cathedral.
Anne is survived by her daughters, Ellen Schink and Sarah Robinson, her grandchildren Rachel and Zachary, her sisters Emily Barker, Portland, ME, Alison Bossie, her husband Gary, Houlton, ME, their sons Christopher Bossie, Houlton, ME and Jonathan Bossie, Portland OR and their families and many other Adams and Barker cousins.
Funeral service will be held at St. Luke’s Cathedral 143 State Street, Portland, ME at 2:00 pm on Saturday November 19th with a reception following from 3-5. Interment will be in the Bishop’s Garden at St. Luke’s Cathedral as a private service for family.
