Portland- Alden “Bod” D. Bodwell, 68, of Gorham, died on December 8, 2019 at Mercy Hospital. He was born on April 4, 1951, the son of Donald J and Lena (Jackson) Bodwell. He grew up in Falmouth and graduated from Falmouth High School in 1969. He went on to attend at UMO and Casco Bay College.
Alden worked at Farrar Brown Automotive, Jordan Marsh, as a sales clerk, and Time Warner Cable in the AD-Sales and Production Department. He was a cameraman/director for the live broadcasts of the Portland City Council meetings.
He will always be lovingly remembered, by his life-long friends, as fun-loving, generous and an instigator of good times. He was passionate about music and had varied tastes from obscure to popular artists. He was also a loyal follower of local Portland bands, in which his friends played, attending gigs and assisting with any equipment needs. He was a big fan of Brandi Carlile. He was passionate about muscle and drag cars, following the drag circuit for most of his life. He was proud of his Chevy Nova 402 drag race car, which he built, along with several high performance muscle cars. Alden was a long time follower of America’s space program and missions; this included all aviation and visiting the WWII aircraft at the Portland airport.
He brought people together and created special friendships, through potluck suppers, movie night or just a friendly get-together. He was a huge movie buff with an intense knowledge of classic and cult films, especially the Cohen Brothers. We will all miss the wonderful times at his Sebago Lake camp.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Yoho of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Nephews Brett, Kevin and Andrew Yoho of Virginia; his beloved cats, Sweetie Pie, Midnight and Tiger and his many friends who will miss his fun, friendship and knowledge.
A private memorial service will be held in the spring.
Memorial contributions in Bodwell’s memory may be made to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, 217 Landing Road, Westbrook, Maine 04092
