Myrtle Barbara Smith, “myrts”, age 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2023, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, daughter in law, niece and caregivers during the last days of her life After losing her lifelong partner of 58 years, she suffered a gradual decline in health.
Myrts was born March 28,1937, in Siloah, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to Arnold and Eunice Bennett. Myrtle is the second of 12 siblings. She married the love of her life, Alvin Smith, “fen”, on December 1,1965, in Kingston, Jamaica.
Myrtle and the children migrated to the United States in 1981. She lived in Poughkeepsie, NY from 1981 to 2004. Myrtle and Alvin retired in Port St Lucie, where she lived the remainder of her life. She lived a full life as a wonderful mother, grandmother.
She is survived by her three children, Lorna, Rohan and Dawnette; daughter in law, Janett, grandchildren; Rohan Jr., Aaliyah,Tatiana, Ryan, Malik, Tammi, adopted daughter; Sharon and several nieces and nephews. Sisters Ruth and Marie and brother Lastelle Bennett “Uncle Glen”.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin, siblings; Norah, Donald, Dorothy, Howard, Winnie, Hamblin, Rubert.
Most of all she loved her family and instilled values that will serve us well. She will be dearly missed and forever hold a special place in our heart.
