Isabelle grew up in France. Her family moved around a bit and ended up in Laon. Her ability to learn, read and speak english was beneficial when her town became occupied by the Germans during World War II. As a young teenager she was able to translate and carry messages between the Allies and the French Underground. Her family would offer overnight shelter to soldiers until they were able to make arrangements for a safe departure. Isabelle would personally walk the soldiers past the German guards pretending that they were French men going to work. Once France was freed from occupation there were some dances for the soldiers which is where Isabelle met her husband. They stayed in touch over the years and when Ernie returned to France in 1949 they decided to get married. Ernie returned to the US Merchant Marines, based out of New York, and sent for Isabelle who traveled to Manhattan where they started a family. They soon moved to Levittown, Stony Brook and finally to Massapequa, New York. In 1973 Isabelle started working at JC Penny part time until they moved to Port St. Lucie in 1989. Isabelle was an active member of the Port St. Lucie’s Newcomers Club and enjoyed playing bridge.
Isabelle was very proud of her family. She and Ernie had four daughters: the late Martine (late Michael) Marotta of Port St. Lucie, FL, Katherine (Joseph) Moore of Port. St. Lucie, FL; Mary Ann (Timothy) Haley of Port St. Lucie, FL; and JoAnne Kong of West Babylon, NY. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Danielle Marotta (David Calderin) of Miami FL, Jackie (Craig) Ameduri USAF.
